Kickstarter and UNHCR Launch Creative Campaign to Help Refugees

by

Nowadays German journalists and politicians are mainly concerned with the question whether Chancellor Merkel might lose her political standing because of her surprisingly clear position regarding the vast humanitarian crisis in Europe. As much as we Germans actually fear and despise failure, we can turn out extraordinarily gleeful when someone seems to be heading straight towards it. Will Merkel fail? Will she be overthrown by her own actions?

In the meantime others have decided to ask more useful questions and put their creative energy and powerful media assets to a much better use. Kickstarter and UNHCR have launched an impressive campaing to help and support refugees as they struggle to build new lives.

In 2015 half a million refugees already have found their way to Europe after an exhausting journey. According to UNHCR, more than half of the refugee population is under 18. At the invitation of the White House a Kickstarter campaign has been launchend to provide non-bureaucratic aid to people who need it most. Food, water, warm clothes and education are on the „goal list“:

In is a most creative and effective way to raise money for a most urgent cause. The campaing differs from regular Kickstarters in various ways: Usually campaigners on Kickstarter set a goal – that is a specific sum – that needs to be raised. While normally contributions are collected only if the sum is reached, this Kickstarter is different. In this campaign ALL contributions are collected as they roll in. So it isn’t all-or-nothing, and anyone can donate as many times as he or she wishes until the funding period ends on Tuesday, October 13.

Funds will go directly to USA for UNHCR. Kickstarter is donating their usual 5% fee to aid these efforts. Their payments partner Stripe is also waiving their usual fee.
